Training Programs :: Fall Cycling Group Training
Fall Cycling Group Training
Century Cycling season is pretty much over — Triathlon season is pretty much over. Even marathon season is done. But we're not ready to pack it in yet! Resist the siren's call of your basement and enjoy Fall, Chicago's finest riding weather.
The primary goal of this 7-week cycling program is to extend the cycling fitness that people have built over the summer/fall. These are the long aerobic rides that are the basis for more intense training. Remember that trying to do your long rides indoors makes time move in dog years and you'll thank us for offering an outdoor option. Coach Jordan will be on hand to help teach, challenge and motivate you!
Have fun, meet great people, and stay in shape in a non-intimidating way! You'll also discover new riding routes in Chicago and surrounding areas. (Program runs from Sunday, October 16 through November 27 — weather permitting)

Training Days & Locations
Group training sessions are held every Sunday morning from October 16 through November 2 (7 weeks — weather permitting).
For a little more detail on what happens at those sessions, read on...
Sundays — 8:00am We'll meet at Amundsen High School (5110 N Damen Ave. — meet in the parking lot just south of the school)
This will be a club/group ride that is open to paid participants, has a set route, quick pace, semi-drop policy, and should be appealing to the serious road cyclist/triathlete. NOTE: We'll plan a few, remote starts in Barrington before the weather turns.
BONUS: Free parking is available at all of our group training sessions!
Group Ride Requirements
Must be comfortable riding 50 to 75 miles (rides may be shorter, depending on weather), with an average pace of 17-19 mph (this means that there will be stretches above this!). Must be comfortable riding in a group. Consider this an alternative to some of the other "super intense" group rides that aren't, shall we say, as "welcoming" to everyone!
First Group Training Ride(s)
Join us at our first Group Training Ride, 8:00am Sunday, October 16th. Meet in the parking lot on the south side of Amundsen High School, at 5110 N Damen Ave.
Please arrive with enough time to be ready to hit the road promptly at 8am — pump up your tires before you leave your house!
Our Coaching Staff
Jordan Grauer
Our head cycling coach, Jordan Grauer, has been an avid cyclist for almost 30 years and still fondly remembers his first racing bike. He's been a competitive cyclist since college, and in 1995, qualified for and successfully completed the 1,200 kilometer Paris-Brest-Paris ultramarathon cycling race. As co-owner and operator of Higher Gear bicycles for 13 years (1993-2005), Jordan was a key sponsor of Club Bicicletta, an amateur cycling club affiliated with the Higher Gear/Vox team. He has also led bicycle tours through Canada, France, Scotland, England, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.
We're extremely proud of our professional, experienced coaching staff — they always go the extra mile to make sure you have a fun, successful training season! Why is it so important to have qualified coaches? They can:
- Evaluate your current fitness level and goals to make sure you are training at an appropriate level
- Evaluate and suggest ways to improve your technique
- Assist you if you need to adjust your training schedule, in the event of an injury or missed training due to travel or life in general
- Motivate and challenge you to reach your goals in a smart, safe & effective manner
